What Deschutes County Homeowners Need to Know About Oregon's R327 Fire Safety Code
Oregon Residential Specialty Code Section R327 sets wildfire-resistant construction standards for homes in Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) areas, including many parts of Deschutes County. The code requires ignition-resistant materials such as Class A fire-rated roofing, enclosed eaves, tempered or multi-pane windows, ember-resistant vents, noncombustible siding, and fire-resistant decking for new homes and major remodels in high-hazard zones. These measures are mandatory and are verified during the building permit and inspection process to help homes better withstand wildfire embers and radiant heat.
